Dr. Sean Cole concludes his sermon series on the theology of beloved Christmas hymns, focusing on "What Child is This?"
Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,
The cross be borne for me, for you;
Hail, hail the Word made flesh,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
This imagery of Jesus being pierced with nails and a spear comes from the Gospel of John.
Celebrate King Jesus for His finished work on the cross!
The carol calls us to “Hail the Word made flesh!” We don’t often use the word “hail,” but it means to celebrate, praise, or honor.
One thing we can’t overlook is that Jesus is the King. This is the crucifixion of the King of kings and Lord of lords. And yet, how does Jesus, as King, die?
This sermon explores THREE aspects of the Crucifixion of the King and why we should celebrate!
